Colorado Springs Plumbing: What to Do When Your Drains Are Clogged

A clogged drain is not always a major plumbing problem. Sometimes it is just hair in a bathroom sink or grease in a kitchen line. But when drains keep backing up, or several drains are slow at the same time, it is time to look deeper. A reputable plumber can tell the difference between a simple clog and a main-line issue before recommending a fix.

One Clogged Drain vs. Multiple Slow Drains

Start by looking at where the problem is happening. If only one sink, shower, tub, or floor drain is slow, the clog is probably close to that fixture. It may be in the trap or the branch line serving that drain.

If several drains are slow at once, especially in different areas of the house, the problem is more likely in the main sewer line. That is a different kind of issue.

Main-line clogs usually cannot be fixed with a plunger or store-bought drain cleaner. They need a proper diagnostic, often a sewer camera inspection, to find out what is actually blocking the line.

What Causes Drain Clogs in Colorado Springs Homes

Most drain clogs come from a few common sources. In bathrooms, hair and soap scum are the usual causes. In kitchens, grease and food waste build up over time, especially when liquid grease is poured down the drain and then cools inside the pipe.

Older Colorado Springs homes can have another issue: cast iron drain lines with decades of internal scaling. As the buildup narrows the pipe, drainage slows, and clogs become more frequent.

Tree roots are also common in older neighborhoods. Mature trees can send roots into clay or cast-iron sewer joints. From the drain, a root clog looks like any other backup. A camera inspection is the only way to see it clearly.

What You Can Try Before Calling a Plumber

For a single slow bathroom drain, start by cleaning the stopper. Hair often wraps around the stopper post and blocks the flow. A small drain snake or hair-removal tool can also help pull out buildup near the drain opening.

For a slow kitchen sink, hot water can help reduce grease buildup if the problem is minor. Running hot water after using the sink can also help prevent grease from settling in the line.

Avoid chemical drain cleaners, especially in older homes. They can be harsh on pipes and usually provide only a short-term result. If the clog keeps coming back, the issue is probably farther down the line.

When a Snake Is Not Enough

A drain snake can break through a clog, but it does not always remove the material causing the problem. For a simple hair clog or small blockage, snaking may be enough.

For recurring clogs, grease buildup, root intrusion, or heavy pipe scaling, snaking often just opens a temporary path. The problem stays in the pipe and comes back later.

If a drain has already been snaked once or twice and the issue returns, the next step should be a camera inspection. That gives you a clear answer instead of another short-term fix.

Hydro Jetting for Heavy Buildup

Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to clean the inside of a drain or sewer line. It can remove grease, mineral buildup, root material, and debris that a snake may leave behind.

This is often the right option for kitchen lines with heavy grease, main lines with recurring backups, and older cast-iron lines with scaling.

Before hydro jetting, we inspect the line to make sure the pipe can handle the pressure. That step matters, especially in older homes where a damaged pipe may need repair instead of aggressive cleaning.

What a Sewer Camera Inspection Tells You

A sewer camera inspection shows the inside of the line in real time. The camera can reveal roots, bellies in the pipe, broken joints, offset sections, heavy scaling, and blockages.

The footage is recorded, so you have documentation of what was found. That makes repair decisions much easier.

For older Colorado Springs homes with recurring backups, camera inspection is the best starting point. It tells us whether the line needs cleaning, repair, or replacement.

Flat-Rate Drain Service With a Diagnostic First

We assess before we quote. For anything beyond a simple fixture clog, we use the right diagnostic first, whether that means a sewer camera inspection, line locating, or another test.

Then we explain what we found and provide flat-rate pricing before work begins. No hourly billing. No surprise charges after the job is already underway.

If another plumber gave you a drain quote without a camera inspection, we can provide a free second opinion.
